The Peer-to-Peer Exchange Program is designed to share global cases of best practices and real world examples of sustainable urban freight systems. This program is open to anyone with a professional or a personal interest in freight transportation issues. Professional Development Hours will be provided to those interested.
With the continuing growth in population, residential and commercial development in urban areas, and e-commerce, transportation engineers and city planners are faced with the need to make proper decisions and develop programs that facilitate freight activity and ensure appropriate curb management. Solid estimates of the Freight Trip Generation (FTG) generated by establishments and households (in the form of internet-related deliveries) are essential to manage the curb. A new breed of FTG models estimated as part of the project “Estimating Freight Generation Using Commodity Flow Survey Microdata” provide a mechanism to estimate FTG at the establishment, and any other level of geography. This presentation will describe the use of FTG models to better manage curbside infrastructure in different urban contexts.
