Information Technology Manager-Sanibel (FL) Public Library

 

Is the Sanibel Public Library “Your Library Reimagined?” Join the Library’s Leadership Team and celebrate the Library’s future while honoring its history as their new Information Technology Manager. The successful candidate, with generosity of spirit, time and creativity, will significantly contribute to the Library’s $5 million interior renovation project focusing on the Library as a “space” and a “place” serving people—both external and internal customers. Key opportunities are: working on the Library’s Your Library Reimagined project—developing user-centered design including more flexibility and portability, using technologies effectively, and preservation of Sanibel’s local history through the Sanibel Memory project. The Sanibel Public Library, governed by a seven member elected Board of Library Commissioners, includes a committed fourteen-member Staff Team, and has a $1.8 operating budget. The Library, serving 6,500 people (swelling to 35,000 in the winter season), continues to be a community anchor encouraging discovery, enrichment and lifelong learning. 

 

Warm weather, beautiful beaches, a blue-ribbon elementary school (Lee County School District), an outstanding library, and an international airport provide a superb quality of life on Sanibel Island, Lee County, FL—part of the Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida region. Due to easy causeway access, Sanibel’s 17.5 square miles is a popular global tourist destination and is known for its shell beaches and wildlife refuges. The Island hosts the Sanibel Historical Village, other museums and theaters as well as the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, and the Sanibel Sea School. Responsibilities. The IT Manager serves on the Library’s Management Team and reports to the Library Director. Illustrative responsibilities include: leading the Library’s overall technology activities (IT, web development and digital collections); ensuring that successful technology services align with the Library’s mission and plan; planning, preparing and monitoring the technology budgets; developing and implementing staff and customer training; and providing the technology vision, leadership, infrastructure, tools and services to support excellent customer service. Qualifications: Minimum required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of five years’ experience in information technology, computer services and internal/external technology support. Preferred qualifications include an ALA-accredited MLS; a minimum of three years’ experience in a library setting; a sound working knowledge of metadata tools, ILS software, web technologies, image editing programs; a working knowledge of PC hardware, applications, and current library technology trends; and supervisory experience. Professional initiative, creativity and flexibility are highly desirable traits.
