More about the position The Central Valley Supervisor serves under the Assistant Regional Director for Fish and Aquatic Conservation, located in the Pacific Southwest Region, Sacramento, California. The Central Valley Supervisor has supervisory responsibility for several field stations and overall coordination for related Service field operations in California’s Central Valley and Bay-Delta region. The primary duties of the position are to provide direct supervision and administration of the Pacific Southwest Region fish and wildlife offices in California’s Central Valley, including the Red Bluff and Lodi Fish and Wildlife Offices and the Central Valley Project Improvement Act Implementation and San Joaquin River Restoration programs. Additionally, this position provides policy guidance, technical advice and ensures coordination of fish and water management operations among field offices, including those within the Central Valley that are not under the direct supervision of the Central Valley Supervisor. The Central Valley watershed covers more than 40 percent of California and includes the drainage basins for the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers, the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, and the San Francisco Bay (including Suisun and San Pablo Bays). The Central Valley ecosystem supports 750 species of plants, fish, and wildlife including several endangered and threatened aquatic species such as Delta Smelt, several runs of Chinook salmon, and green sturgeon. Two-thirds of the State’s salmon pass through Central Valley waters, and at least half of the Pacific Flyway migratory water birds rely on the region’s wetlands.
