Petersen Awarded the John Randall Scholarship
Gordon Petersen, a PhD student in the Department of Nuclear Engineering, was recently awarded the 2016 John Randall Scholarship from the American Nuclear Society, Fuel Cycle & Waste Management Division. Petersen defended his PhD dissertation earlier this week on developing optimized allocation strategies for used nuclear fuel unloading from shutdown reactor sites, with the goal of minimizing the number of years that spent fuel is being stored at shutdown reactors sites that no longer generate power. The Randall scholarship is awarded by the ANS Fuel Cycle and Waste Management Division annually to a student pursuing graduate studies in the areas of science and engineering related to the nuclear fuel cycle and radioactive waste management. Petersen is a student of Dr. Steven Skutnik.
