Job Description

Oxford College of Emory University seeks an energetic, service-oriented and

collaborative professional with an ability to provide innovative services as the

Collections Management Librarian. The successful candidate will work with a

collaborative team of librarians and staff to build collections in all formats.

Further, the librarian will coordinate our Archives and Special Collections

program in collaboration with the other Emory libraries. We seek an enthusiastic

individual with proven teaching and technology skills to work with the library

leadership team to develop and deliver innovative, quality services for the Oxford

College Library http://oxford.library.emory.edu. The College provides a liberal

arts intensive curriculum for the first two years of the Emory baccalaureate

degree and is located 38 miles east of Atlanta on the original 1836 Emory

campus in Oxford, Georgia.

 

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Deputy Director of the Library, the Collections Librarian will

manage the acquisition and collection development in all formats, including

electronic resources and digital collections in support of the Oxford College

undergraduate curriculum. The librarian will coordinate the collection

development, management, and preservation efforts of all Oxford librarians.

Further, the librarian will develop innovative services, modules, and programs to

assist first and second year students in building important information literacy

abilities. The librarian will be expected to teach information literacy sessions as

a part of the library's Research Practices team and should be comfortable with

current and evolving information technologies. The librarian will provide

reference services along with some scheduled night and weekend reference

work. The individual will be an active member of internal library teams such as

Hub of Living and Learning, Dynamic Information Contest, and Research

Practices along with other College and University groups and professional

organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

Required: a graduate degree in librarianship from an ALA-accredited institution;

demonstrated effective teaching experience including discipline-specific

instruction sessions; knowledge of research methodology and experience in

meeting the research needs of students and faculty; knowledge of: finding aids

and Special Collections best practices, digitization principles/practices, archival

standards, MARC and non-MARC metadata schemes, resource discovery/access,

digital library collections, and cataloging. The librarian must be self-motivated,

flexible, a problem-solver, and have strong organizational, interpersonal, and

written and oral communication skills. The librarian must have initiative and

ability to conceive and carry out projects on a deadline, including the ability to

manage multiple responsibilities and effectively respond to the needs of a

campus community that makes heavy demands on library services and the ability

to work in a collaborative team environment.
