You have been invited to the following webinar:

Innovative Street Solutions for Urban Freight: Experiences from London and Buenos Aires

The Peer-to-Peer Exchange Program is designed to share global cases of best practices and real world examples of sustainable urban freight systems. This program is open to anyone with a professional or a personal interest in freight transportation issues. Professional Development Hours will be provided to those interested.

Servicing a growing city with limited road space is a challenge. A community’s lifestyle and technology advances increase transportation user conflicts and congestion while decreasing air quality. Since one solution does not fit all, effective solutions require a thorough understanding of local profiles and a holistic approach that considers freight and all other road users. In this webinar, experiences from London and Buenos Aires are presented.

Transport for London is developing a methodology to look at specific areas, consider transportation impacts, and then propose and implement solutions. This tool is expected to help designers and planners embed delivery and servicing activity into all schemes. An example of a solution implemented in a busy street using shared-level loading bays will also be discussed. The Secretary of Transportation in Buenos Aires will present the results of key initiatives implemented in that city as part of its Sustainable Mobility Plan. The success of the plan lies in the use of technology in developing innovative mobility policies to solve parking, safety and mobility issues. The Plan takes into account local needs and expectations when implementing key measures, such as creating specific loading and unloading areas (called “cajones azules”) in key neighborhoods, and installing a state-owned paid parking system that will help decongest neuralgic zones and ease flow within the city.
