Dear Geography majors,

 

Greeting from Yingkui (Philip) Li. From this semester, I will be the director of undergraduate studies in the department to serve for you. My office is Room 412 and you can find my email address and phone number at the end of this email. I will practice the “open-door” policy as many faculty members do in the department. Please feel free to stop by my office to discuss any questions related to your undergraduate studies, such as course advising, career consulting, etc.     

 

As you may know, started from this academic year (2016-2017 Undergraduate Catalog), geography major will have five concentrations (http://catalog.utk.edu/content.php?catoid=20&navoid=2211): “Climate and Climate Change”, “Geospatial Science and Technology”, “Landscapes and Environment”, “Space, Society, and Culture”, and “World Cities and Economies”. The goal of these concentrations is to help you streamline the course work, refine your interest in geography, and put you in a better position in the job market. For the students who are close to finish, you can still keep using the old catalog. For those who just become a geography major, I encourage you to think about these concentrations and discuss with your advisor about any issues related to these concentrations.

 

I just prepared a feedback form about these concentrations (see the attachment). I hope that you can help fill this feedback form and send it back to me. Your feedback is of critical importance for the department to keep improving these concentrations.
