The University of Virginia Library establishes deep connections with faculty and students in ways that foster excellence in current and emerging research, scholarship, teaching and learning. As a member of the Scholars' Lab, the employee in this position will support that mission by collaborating with a cohort of librarians, geospatial data experts, digital humanists, data scientists, and programmers to: shape our public service model for geospatial consultation and delivery; support research and teaching that uses geospatial tools and information; identify emerging needs in these fields and envision new services in response; and develop and strengthen relationships among the library, faculty and students, and other centers on campus, positioning the library as a key partner. 

Responsibilities: 
-Contribute to the development of research and information services and programs that support the use of geospatial data throughout the university including Esri and other application users. 
-Guide faculty and students in obtaining, creating, and using geospatial data for research and scholarship. 
-Assist in the development of spatial delivery environments and services specifically ArcGIS Server, Portal and Online. 
-Support implementation of advanced analysis and presentation tools from GIS software for the UVa community. 
-Build and support a collaborative network of geospatial services and interests around Grounds and larger community. 
-Consult on GIS requirements for larger Library and University information management initiatives. 
-Develop and offer training programs in collaboration with other GIS and data experts and with colleagues in Academic Engagement. 
-Develop increased proficiency in emerging standards and practices for scholarly use of geospatial information. 

Required Qualifications: 
-A Masters' degree in a geospatial or relevant discipline. 
-Experience in public service, preferably in a University setting.
-Experience in a position focused on supporting academic uses of geographic information systems. 
-Demonstrated experience administering ArcGIS Server and developing ArcGIS Server applications. 
-Competence in presenting complex technical knowledge to undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty and staff. 
-Excellent communication skills. 
-Proficiency with Esri software, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online and in open-source solutions for GIS including data management.
