Oklahoma – Extension Specialists are considered tenured faculty. They all possess a PhD. The university system recognizes their academic title, assistant, associate or professor. The Extension title, Ext. Small
Grains Specialist, etc. is a working title. They just go through the promotion and tenure process just like other faculty within their department. In fact, they are housed in the appropriate academic department.
We do have a few using the title Ast or Aso Specialists. These are non-tenure track positions. I cannot think of one with a PhD, most have an MS degree. They do not go through a tenure process.
