Library Director-St. Charles (IL) Public Library

 

Join the St. Charles Public Library Board of Trustees, the Library Staff, and the St. Charles community as its new Library Director positioning the Library towards new levels of exceptional library services and programs. The successful candidate will be both a positive and practical visionary with a willingness to take challenges and explore efficiencies in new service models and library spaces. The St. Charles Public Library is poised to begin a new strategic plan continuing its community collaboration to create a welcoming, warm environment for all St. Charles citizens. Key opportunities include a potential redesign and expansion of the Library, enhancing the Director/Board relationship; coaching and mentoring a committed, excellent Library staff; and designing and executing leading edge technologies for library services. Governed by an elected seven-member Board, the Library serves 55,000 residents (53% carry library cards) with an annual budget of $7.8 million, an annual circulation of 1.4 million items, and 120 dedicated staff. Additional support comes from the Friends of St. Charles Public Library, the St. Charles Library Foundation, and an active volunteer program.

Responsibilities. The Library Director will assist the Library Board with policy and planning; provide appropriate leadership for the Board and staff; lead and encourage a professional, dedicated and effective staff supporting library goals and objectives; prepare, manage and administer the Library’s budget; understand and support the Library’s fundraising efforts through the Foundation and Friends of the Library; works with other libraries and library organizations; works with local organizations and local government; develop new services, programs, and technologies promoting Library use; and works to enhance the Library facility and grounds. Qualifications. Minimum qualifications include a Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program, a minimum of five years of public library administrative experience in a comparable library system, and experience in personnel supervision, strategic planning and budget preparation and management. Desired qualifications include a thorough knowledge and understanding of library administration; knowledge of legislative, legal and financial matters affecting district libraries; and a commitment to high professional, ethical and service standards. Successful experience reporting to a governing Board and facility renovation/building experience are preferred.

Compensation. The starting salary range is $105,000-$120,000 (with placement dependent on experience and qualifications) with a competitive benefits package.
