Online Instruction Librarian

King University, a private, comprehensive university founded in the Presbyterian tradition, is inviting applications for an energetic and innovative Online Instruction Librarian.  This position will join our highly collaborative, user-focused, and forward-thinking team of librarians and will take a leadership role in providing library services to online students and faculty.  Position is full-time with faculty status and is based at King’s Bristol campus in the beautiful foothills of Northeast Tennessee.  Position to begin in the summer of 2016.

This position will have the following duties:

·         Coordinate with other librarians to provide information literacy instruction across all teaching formats and programs with primary responsibility over online format

·         Continue expansion and enhancement of embedded information literacy program within the university’s learning management system

·         Investigate emerging technologies and stay abreast of professional trends in distance library services

·         Create and develop online video tutorials, instructional web pages, and LibGuides to help users access information

·         Serve as Webmaster for Library website 

·         Share the responsibility of teaching a one credit-hour information literacy course three times in an academic year

·         Manage print and e-reserves workflow and update reserves policies as needed

·         Perform the general duties of a professional librarian, including but not limited to:

o   Serve as liaison to assigned academic departments for collection development;

o   Teach some face-to-face instruction sessions and serve on reference desk;

o   Participate in the daily interactions and processes of the King University Libraries;

o   Serve on college-wide committees as assigned

 

Candidate must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, be self-motivated, organized with attention to detail, outgoing, adaptable, capable of working collaboratively, be open to new ideas and unafraid to explore alternative ways of accomplishing tasks.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to:

·         Provide examples of past work to demonstrate experience in design of online instructional aids using a platform such as:  a learning management system; content management software, screencasting software such as Camtasia, Jing, or Snagit; LibGuides; Google productivity suite, and YouTube Video Manager

·         Have knowledge of print and electronic information resources

·         Have demonstrable teaching and/or training experience

·         Be familiar with current practices, theory, and issues related to information literacy instruction, assessment of student learning, and reference services in both the online and face to face environment,

·         Have a working knowledge of the ACRL Framework

·         Have a willingness to form strategic partnerships with campus entities

·         Have flexibility and teamwork skills to adapt to the emerging roles and tasks of a relatively new position 

·         Have the ability to work efficiently and effectively in a team-based environment

·         Have the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a busy, time-sensitive environment 

·         Engage in the King University community by attending university-sponsored events, commencement ceremonies, and representing King in the community

 

Qualifications: ALA-accredited master's degree in library and/or information science is required and experience serving distance library users is preferred.  Knowledge of instructional design, adult learning, and distance education principles is a plus.
