Position Summary:

Media Collection Coordinator: coordinate, maintain, and make available for borrowing circulating media collections including but not limited to DVDs, CDs, and VHS tapes. Maintain media and microforms related equipment.

Coordinates activities at Newman Library’s Circulation/Reserve Unit during assigned hours to ensure that library patrons receive prompt & courteous service. Performs database functions on item screens and patron accounts in ILS to include: processing claimed returned materials, processing overdue items and current hold lists, printing Book Runner slips, make decisions regarding circulation and reserve policies and procedures; supervise wage employees and student assistants, retrieves books from return bins, searches for library materials. Monitors the library during shift and serves as a contact for library patrons and employees. Look for maintenance issues, emergency situations, security violations, and disruptive behavior, reporting problems to the appropriate areas.

Contribute to and assist with the development of the Libraries’ Learning Environments Program.

 

This position is considered necessary to the safety and vital operations of University libraries and is identified as emergency personnel. Emergency personnel are required to report to work during periods of authorized closings, which may include weekends, holidays and during inclement weather.

Required Qualifications:

- Experience working in a public service capacity (in a highly public visible environment).

- Experience in Windows-based and Apple OS computer environment and data entry.

- Experience in interpreting and explaining library policies to university members and the general public.

- Experience in directing and supervising the work of other staff and student employees.

- Experience dealing effectively in situations where assistance from Campus Security may be required.

- Experience in a work setting to prioritize and organize work tasks, with attention to detail.

- Experience working without supervision and independently make decisions during shifts.

- Demonstrated ability to walk and monitor a multi-story library facility.

- Ability to independently, frequently and safely move and handle books weighing 2 to 8 pounds and to perform frequent manual circulation of these materials.

- Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Experience working with an integrated library system.

-Experience driving a delivery van.

-Knowledge of research library environment.

-Experience with circulating media collections including but not limited to DVDs, CDs, and VHS tapes.

Tues-Sat 3pm-12 midnight

(May vary due to breaks and holidays)

- Must have a driver’s license check and have a safe driving record
