Library Director – Dandridge Memorial Library - Dandridge, TN


The Jefferson County Library Board seeks an enthusiastic and experienced Library Director who is dedicated to public service. One of four public libraries in Jefferson County, Dandridge Memorial Library (DML) is a vital part of community life with a service population of 18,764 in a county of 52,000+ residents. DML is a level 3 library in the Clinch River Region. It is currently a 3700 square foot building that opened in 1984 and has hopes of expanding to 6,000 square foot in the future, with the help and support of the Dandridge Friends of the Library. The library is located in the downtown historic district of Dandridge, alongside beautiful Douglas Lake.

The Director reports to a nine member Board of Trustees and is responsible for the overall operation and management of the library. The director is expected to work with other library directors in the system, as well as Dandridge city government and Jefferson County Commission.

Essential duties include directing the library’s finances and budget process, directing the expenditures of funds, leading support staff and volunteers, all while providing exemplary customer service to the residents of Dandridge.

The Library Director is responsible for the operation and administration of the library; promoting the library through various civic activities; maintaining and organizing an appropriate stock inventory of reading and viewing materials; and maintaining an adequate stock of supplies necessary for operating a public library.  Preferred qualifications include previous experience as a director or branch manager, excellent communication skills, and experience with budgets and planning.

Required qualifications include a High School Diploma plus a minimum two years of college or related experience.  Library Science Degree preferred but not required. Must have ability to operate personal computers and software on a routine basis. Knowledge of automated office equipment is desirable. The ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public consisting of all ages and personalities is also required.

Salary offered is commensurate with experience and qualifications and is negotiable from $31,000. Jefferson County employee benefits are available, including health insurance, paid vacation, and sick leave.
