The USFWS permanent position is the Lead Botanist at the San Marcos Aquatic Resources Center in San Marcos, Texas. 
The incumbent will be responsible for design, establishment, and coordination of Texas wild rice refugium activities at two facilities (San Marcos National Fish Hatchery and Technology Center and Uvalde NFH).

  • Assists in the development and execution of the Contingency, Captive Propagation, and Reintroduction plan for Texas wild rice to be used for possible restoration efforts.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships; proposing, justifying, and obtaining funds; initiating, carrying out, and guiding projects to completion; and developing new technologies for research, propagation, and restoration projects.
  • Advises other investigators on experimental design and data analysis for research projects.
  • The salary range is from 59,246 to 92,316 per year.
