Position Description:

This is a Civil Service position, located in the Community Engagement Division of Nashville Public Library and is responsible for performing administrative functions related to the Summer Zone, to enrichment activities, to volunteer services, and other logistical supports for the Nashville After Zone Alliance (NAZA). NAZA is a coordinated expanded learning system that provides quality afterschool and summer learning opportunities for Metro Schools’ middle and high school students at no cost in safe and convenient locations across the county.  The Summer Zone’s Nashville Scholars program specifically focuses on success in high school and beyond.

 

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Directs, coordinates and administers the Summer Zone and Nashville Scholars, including all promotions and reporting, procurement, contract, and fiscal oversight and management of all personnel
  • Supports NAZA’s on-going partnership with Metro Schools around facilities, personnel, transportation, food services, data-sharing, and program evaluation based on student outcomes
  • Resolves system-level barriers and creates innovative strategies to leverage cross-departmental and public/private assets to benefit the system, the providers, and the students
  • Administers and coordinates NAZA’s formal engagement with enrichment activities at afterschool and summer sites, including identifying and vetting new enhancements, implementing networking and recognition opportunities for providers
  • Coordinates annual implementation of NAZA’s formal program quality improvement model, including coordination of timely completion of multiple processes by nearly 100 staff and volunteers and handling logistics related to NAZA’s professional development opportunities for Nashville’s youth workers
  • Recruits, trains and supports volunteers across the NAZA system both after school and during the summer, with both indirect and direct lines of accountability
  • Supervises complex projects within the Community Engagement Division of NPL as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, education, social work, or other relevant field and at least three (3) years of professional-level experience in community-building or managing public/private partnerships.

 

Valid Driver's License may be required.

Preferred Knowledge/Abilities/Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant field
  • Demonstrated experience in building successful multi-sector community partnerships
  • Knowledge of best practices in out-of-school supports for young adolescents and teens
  • Experience in managing multiple complex tasks simultaneously
  • Experience in creating innovative “win-win” partnerships to resolve barriers or open up new strategies
  • Experience in human resource processes, related to the hiring and supervision of staff
  • Strong analytical, budgeting, and grants management skills
  • Proficient in relationship-building based in trust and integrity across diverse cultures and contexts
  • Ability to effectively and persuasively communicate verbally and in writing to managers, the general public and other stakeholders
  • Ability to coach, support, and delegate to staff and volunteers without direct lines of accountability
  • MS Office skills (Word, Excel)
