The Coker College Library invites applicants to apply for the position of Instruction and 
Outreach Librarian beginning August 2016.  The Instruction and Outreach Librarian 
oversees the library’s instruction program that supports students on the main campus and 
at two off-site instructional locations, teaches individual bibliographic instruction and 
credit bearing library classes, leads the development of outreach activities and provides 
reference services to patrons. The incumbent would ensure that all library operations run 
smoothly, efficiently, and progressively.  Primary responsibilities include:

-developing outreach activities and communication to promote library programming, 
resources and services.

-promoting new and existing library resources and services in person and through print, 
web and other media;

-developing, implementing, delivering and assessing the current and future bibliographic 
instruction needs of the College;

-teaching individual bibliographic instruction classes and credit-bearing research classes;
providing reference service in all formats;

-acting as a liaison between various academic departments for collection development 
purposes;

-adhering to ALA standards and academic library practices;

-participating in professional conferences, workshops, and other academic-related venues 
for promotion and tenure consideration;

-serving on library, college and professional committees as elected or assigned;
and participating in the daily, nightly and weekend reference rotation.

The ideal candidate is passionate about teaching and learning; dedicated to developing 
meaningful working relationships with students, faculty, and staff across campus; eager 
to contribute his/her interests and ideas for new and innovative pedagogy and courses; 
and committed to actively contributing to Coker College’s mission.  Further, the 
incumbent should have proficiency in digital technologies, applications, and reporting 
tools; excellent written and verbal communication; and have the ability to courteously 
assist and support others.

Required qualifications include a Master’s degree in Library Science from an American 
Library Association accredited graduate program, or comparable graduate preparation.  
Additionally, academic credentials in a field taught at the College are desirable. 

This is a 12-month tenure-track position with competitive salary and benefits reporting to 
the Director of the Library.  Review of application materials will begin immediately and
