With diversity being the hot button issue this year, we decided to make it our theme. We aim to show films that help people see that veterans and the military have dealt with diversity for many years and thrive on embracing men and women from all over America, and beyond. The films will be shown in the Alumni Memorial Building Rm 210 along with panels and discussions about being a service member in these situations. April 11 | 5pm ~ 10pm The Vol Fighters and the Pride Center want to open the discussion of the roles played by women in combat and what it's like to be in the LGBT community while serving our country. Come out and engage in meaningful conversation as we present "Transgender, at War and in Love", "Lioness", and "Day One." Learn about Project Healing Waters through a film made by a UT student called "Teach a Man to Fish", take a journey on "The Last Patrol", and end your night with the gripping "American Sniper." We'll walk to first base talking about coming home from WWII and dealing with racial barriers imposed on African Americans, then we'll dive into 2nd with the story of the first African American Navy Diver in "Men of Honor," and we'll slide into Home Plate with "42: The Jackie Robinson Story." April 15th is actually Jackie Robinson Day in which all of the Major League Baseball players wear the number 42. Jackie Robinson was chosen for his role as the first black man in the MLB partly because he was an Army Captain who could stand up for himself with honor.
