THE POSITION:
This is a promotional recruitment, limited to
Civil Service employees of the Nashville Public Library. This position leads, manages and directs major
functions within Tech Services, Collections, Shared Systems and Limitless
Library. Performs
related duties as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Plans, organizes, directs, monitors, and
evaluates the information technology services of the library.
- Establishes and measures long and short-range
goals and objectives.
- Meets with division heads to plan and organize
programs and design implementation plans.
- Allocates existing resources and monitors
expenditures.
- Determines future personnel, facility, and other
resource needs.
- Makes recommendations for ways to solve problems
or improve service as needed.
- Provides strategic oversight to Collections,
Limitless Library, Shared Systems and Tech Services.
- Confers with other Library Assistant Directors
regarding technology and collections.
- Serves on community boards, appears on various
panels, and accepts public speaking requests.
- Develops and presents a budget to the Library
Services Director.
- Supervises professional staff members.
- Evaluates and reviews performance evaluations.
- Oversees and/or participates in selection,
placement, and training of new staff.
- Approves leave and travel requests.
- Counsels with and corrects employees as needed.
- Meets with architects, developers, and vendors.
- Attends various Board, staff, committee, and
professional meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree
in Library Science from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years
of professional library experience, including four (4) years of technology experience
managing and directing the work of multiple major library divisions or multiple
library branches.
Valid "Class D" Driver's
License

Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment
as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE,

of library administration, methods, and procedures.
- Knowledge
of budget principles and practices.
- Knowledge
of Civil Service and departmental rules, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge
of the theories and practices of supervision.
- Skill
in dealing with the public and evaluating community needs.
- Ability
to allocate resources and project future resource needs.
- Ability
to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability
to supervise and train employees.
- Ability
to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
