Position Summary:

The Graphic Design Specialist reports to the Director of Digital Strategy and Outreach. This position provides day-to-day support for a variety of visual needs including print and digital materials. The Graphic Design Specialist participates in the Library’s marketing and communications efforts as part of the Digital Strategy and Outreach team, and contributes to the planning and implementation of various marketing and promotional efforts, in support of the libraries strategic goals and other library units’ communications needs.

Required Qualifications:

- Experience producing graphic designs for print and web, and managing pre-production for creative content

- Experience with desktop design and publishing processes on the Macintosh platform and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite components such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop

- Knowledge of standard office suite software, such as Word, Excel, and Powerpoint

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

- Positive attitude, and customer/client-based service outlook

- Demonstrated ability to produce creative, effective, visual approaches to a wide variety of published materials within established budgets and timeframes

- Ability to handle several projects simultaneously, including conceptualizing and implement a design solution from start to finish

- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

- Previous work experience designing materials for an academic library.

- Familiarity with Virginia Tech brand and Virginia Tech style guide.

- Experience using CAD software.

- Experience with large format printing and managing print production.

- Experience designing and managing digital signage.
