"Thematic Program on GEOMETRIC ANALYSIS"

Dates of Program: July 1, 2017 – December 31, 2017.

Location: Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Organizing committee: Spyros Alexakis (University of Toronto), Walter Craig (McMaster University), Robert Haslhofer (University of Toronto),
Spiro Karigiannis (University of Waterloo), Aaron Naber (Northwestern University), McKenzie Wang (McMaster University)

Scheduled Program Events

Here is a list of the major program events. The listed dates are approximate. More precise information will be added as soon as it becomes available. Inquiries should be made to the program organizers.

• Summer school on Geometric Analysis. (July 2017)
• Workshop on "G2 manifolds and related topics". (Late August or early September 2017)
• Workshop on "General Relativity & AdS/CFT Correspondence". (October 2017)
• Workshop on "Mean curvature flow and Ricci flow". (November 2017)

The summer school is intended for graduate students, postdocs, and early career researchers to learn about various fundamental topics in geometric analysis. The summer school is expected to be two weeks in duration. The three workshops will each be one week in duration. Immediately preceding each workshop there will be a short (2-day) "minischool" during which guest lecturers will give short courses for postdocs, students, and non-expert researchers who are interested in the workshop subtheme, providing them with the background they would need to get the most out of the talks during the workshops.

Other aspects of the thematic program

Many other activities are planned for the program. More details about all of these aspects of the program will be announced soon. These other activities include:

• Graduate Courses: There will be at least two, and possibly three, full-length graduate courses at the Fields Institute during the 2017 Fall term. One course will be "Introduction to geometric flows" by Robert Haslhofer; another course will be "Nonlinear elliptic equations on compact Riemannian manifolds" by Spiro Karigiannis. More details about these courses and a possible third course will be announced later.

• Colloquia and seminars: During the period of the thematic program, we will integrate the "Fields Institute Geometric Analysis Colloquium" with the activities of the program and have one speaker at least every two weeks during the September to December period. Moreover, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows associated with the thematic program we will encouraged to organize weekly working/learning seminars on topics related to the themes of the program. Finally, energetic visitors to the Institute during the program can also participate in the regular differential geometry seminars at the University of Toronto, McMaster, and Waterloo.

• Postdoctoral Fellowships: Several postdoctoral fellowships associated to the program will be offered. Some will be for two years in duration, with the 18 months that do not coincide with the program being spent at one of the principal sponsoring universities of Fields. Other postdoctoral fellowships will be only for the duration of the thematic program. These 6 month positions are expected to be offered to researchers who will take a leave of absence from an existing postdoctoral position. Please see this link: https://www.mathjobs.org/jobs/jobs/8560 and also contact potential hosts at one of the principal sponsoring universities of the Fields Institute.

• Distinguished Lecture Series: We will have at least one distinguished lecture series in conjunction with the program.

• Long-term visitors: Funding is available to support several long-term visitors, usually for a 1-2 month period. Inquiries should be made to the organizers.

• Public Outreach: Several public outreach activities are being planned.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- This message was sent to you via the Geometry List, which announces conferences in geometry and closely related areas to almost 1500 mathematicians worldwide.

At http://listserv.utk.edu/archives/geometry.html there are many functions available, including checking the archives since November 2005, changing your e-mail address or preferences, and joining/leaving the list. If you have problems that cannot be resolved at this website, send a message to [log in to unmask]

Before sending an announcement, please carefully read the following. Any announcements that are *not* about conferences (e.g. those about jobs, journals, books, etc.) will be rejected by the moderator without comment. To announce a geometry or closely related conference, send the announcement (including a conference web site if possible) to [log in to unmask] The moderator cannot edit your message; list members will receive the announcement as an e-mail from you EXACTLY as you submitted it. For example, if your submission starts with "Please post this on the geometry list" then your conference announcement will also begin with that statement. In order to keep down the volume of e-mail, only TWO announcements per conference will be approved by the moderator. The "subject" of your message should include the name of the conference and the number (first or second) of the announcement, e.g. Gauss Memorial Lectures in Geometry: Second Announcement. Please check that your announcement (especially the website) is correct. Corrections will be approved only in the most critical situations, e.g. if corrected information is not available on the website. After submitting an announcement you may receive a message asking you to confirm your submission. This feature is designed to thwart the hundreds of machine-generated spam that are sent to the list and would otherwise have to be manually blocked by the moderator. If you do not see your announcement within 48 hours, please check the archives to see whether it was actually posted (i.e. you somehow missed seeing the post or are not subscribed with your current email address). If the announcement is not in the archive, search for a confirmation message that you may have missed (from listserv.utk.edu). If none of this solves the mystery, send a message to [log in to unmask]

The Geometry List is sponsored and maintained by the Mathematics Department, The University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
