For Astronaut Kelly, Ride is Over, But Journey Has Just Begun<http://www.engr.utk.edu/news/atcoe/atcoe_03_04_16.html#>
Although it might seem paradoxical, many people return from a long trip in need of a vacation to recover from their time away. Imagine, then, if your trip had lasted a year, and you weren’t just out of town but out of this world. That’s the reality that faced NASA Commander Scott Kelly, a UT graduate, when he returned to Earth from his one-year mission aboard the International Space Station late Tuesday.

Featured Student: Parker McCullough

[Parker McCullough]

This week’s featured student is Parker McCullough, an industrial engineering major, from Rockwood, Tennessee, who worked as a co-op student at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

In reporting on his rotation, McCullough worked with both the hardware controls team and the Personnel Protection Systems team (PPS). In the hardware team, he was mainly in charge of creating test procedures for the machine protection system chassis. That included getting the specifications for the hardware requirements, writing LabVIEW code, and implementing the test procedure. He also tested several different classes of hardware.

In the PPS team, McCullough worked on a software project that tests oxygen deficiency monitors. The most valuable benefit received was the opportunity to work and learn in a professional and cutting edge facility.

Students interested in participating in the Engineering Professional Practice program should create a profile in our system and then come visit us in 110 Perkins Hall: www.myinterfase.com/utk/studentregistration.aspx<https://www.myinterfase.com/utk/studentregistration.aspx>

Students, please note: If you receive a co-op or internship offer, please contact Engineering Professional Practice for help with paperwork and any preparations you may need – [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>, 865-974-5323, or 110 Perkins Hall.

Students may read more about their peers' co-op experiences by logging into their Engineering Professional Practice profile via www.coop.utk.edu<http://www.coop.utk.edu/>, clicking "Resource Library" (on the left margin) and selecting "Students at Work–In Their Own Words."
