Through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), Oak Ridge National Laboratory has four job openings for recent bachelor’s and master’s graduates interested in environmental software engineering and computational biology. Brief position descriptions are below:

 

ORNL Software Engineer – Job Positions Open for Recent Bachelor’s Graduates and Master’s Graduates

The Environmental Data Sciences and Systems Group at ORNL is looking for Software Engineers at the post-bachelor’s and post-master’s levels to assist with linking advanced informatics and computer science to data management and distribution in the Earth, climate and environmental sciences.

·         Full-time, two year position (with possibility of extension depending on performance and funding)

  • Must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field, with a background in software development
  • Must have strong software development, informatics, database management, and system design knowledge, as well as experience in one or more computer programming languages, such as Java, Python, PHP, C, R, MatLab, etc.
  • Will be involved with various software development and applied data management activities that support projects in Earth Sciences Informatics, including the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement project, and other DOE projects

ORNL Computational Biologist – Job Positions Open for Recent Bachelor’s Graduates and Master’s Graduates

The Plant Microbial Interfaces (PMI) and the Bioenergy Science Center (BESC) programs at ORNL are looking for Computational Biologists at the post-bachelor’s and post-master’s levels to assist with supercomputing projects focused on analyzing and modeling complex biological systems.

·         Full-time, one year position (with possibility of extension depending on performance and funding)

·         Must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computational biology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, chemistry, physics, engineering, biology, or a related STEM field

·         Must have extensive experience in computer programming, a record of productive research demonstrated by publications, and excellent written and oral communication skills

·         Will be involved with the analysis of omics data, computer programming, statistics, mathematics, network analysis, and high performance computing for PMI/BESC large-scale computational biology systems projects
