Description

The Loyola ? Notre Dame Library seeks a dynamic librarian with experience in electronic resource management to join our Acquisitions department. With nearly two-thirds of our budget allocated to electronic resources, the department is actively engaged in growing and changing its workflows to provide patron-centered access to resources. Reporting to the Head of Acquisitions, the Acquisitions and Resource Management Librarian will provide day-to-day leadership, with some supervisory responsibility, and strategic direction for the acquisition and maintenance of physical, electronic, and emerging-format resources.

The successful candidate will possess strong project management skills, communicate effectively, and establish departmental best practices. Additionally the candidate will facilitate the timely acquisitions of Library resources and materials and enhance the discovery and delivery of materials through effective maintenance of electronic resources. This position supports the research needs of a diverse population of undergraduates, graduates, and faculty at Loyola University Maryland and Notre Dame of Maryland University.

Required Qualifications:

  • ALA-accredited Master’s in Library/Information Science or equivalent;
  • 3+ years of professional experience in an academic library setting;
  • 3+ years of experience managing, implementing, or integrating acquisitions processes;
  • 3+ years of hands-on, recent experience managing the life cycle of electronic and continuing resources including budgets, licensing, technology, and assessment;
  • Working knowledge of budget monitoring and reporting in an integrated library system environment (currently Ex Libris’ Voyager);
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, set performance expectations, manage projects, work in a team environment, assess outcomes, and achieve goals;
  • Demonstrated experience integrating payment and ordering data (e.g., EDI and EOD) and using acquisitions systems (e.g., GOBI);
  • Demonstrated experience with external services and tools (e.g., EZproxy, knowledge bases, link resolvers, A to Z lists, and OCLC);
  • Extensive knowledge of descriptive, structural, and administrative metadata as it relates to access and discovery of resources;
  • Ability to thrive in a changing work environment and demonstrated commitment to professional development.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with rapid cataloging processes;
  • Knowledge of discovery layer structures and batch loading processes;
  • Working knowledge of ILLiad;
  • Experience working with library consortia;
  • Understanding of future trends (e.g., data visualization, cloud computing, and text mining).

Description

 The University of New Mexico College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences (UL&LS) seeks a skilled, enthusiastic, service-oriented, Director of the Center for Southwest Research/Special Collections (CSWR/Special Collections). This senior management position will provide strategic leadership and administration for CSWR/Special Collections, forge dynamic partnerships within the university community and academic institutions statewide, and provide expertise and creativity in developing rare book and modern manuscript and archival collections in a variety of physical and digital formats. This position   reports directly to the Dean of the College of UL&LS. This is a full-time, 12-month position with assistant or associate professor rank and tenure status negotiable based on qualifications and experience.

 CSWR/Special Collections focuses on New Mexico, the Greater Southwest, and Latin America and includes the University Archives. The director is responsible for the stewardship and promotion of these collections and must possess strong, innovative leadership, collaboration, and communication skills; have proven expertise in rare books, special collections and archives; proactively build relationships and partnerships with students, faculty, and staff in UNM's undergraduate and graduate programs as well as with external researchers, scholars, and donors. The director is actively involved in donor relations and fundraising. The director will enhance the educational mission of the CSWR/Special Collections by building pedagogical collections that support the wide range of the university's curricular offerings, expanding outreach efforts, and building partnerships with UNM departments and centers. The director will provide leadership to improve the discoverability of the collections, and work with Digital Initiatives & Scholarly Communication to digitize unique valuable collections, and collect born digital objects.

 The director will have deep knowledge of professional principles and practices relating to materials found in special   collections research libraries, including rare books, maps, prints, photographs, ephemera, archives, manuscripts, archives, audiovisual media, electronic formats and digital archives. The director must be familiar with and committed to the standards, ethics, and best practices in use by special collections professionals.

 Position Description

 
Provide leadership to formulate, implement, and achieve CSWR/Special Collections departmental goals and objectives in line with the UL&LS' strategic priorities.
 
Provide direction for more than 10 faculty, staff, and graduate fellows.
 
Acquire/build collections and archives as well as preserve collections which include unique and special-format items.
 
Develop and maintain access policies to extend awareness and use of the CSWR/Special Collections.
 
Provide excellent services to the campus and beyond and promote essential characteristics of instruction and reference services, assuring that employees assist, advise, and instruct in the use of primary and secondary resources.
 
Foster new ideas and successful partnerships, and nimbly adapt to support change.
 
Plan and implement programs that promote the CSWR/Special Collections, such as exhibits, conferences, guest lectures, public speaking, and other active forms of outreach.
 
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
 
Promote a clear understanding of both the opportunities and challenges inherent in the rapidly changing landscape of academic libraries and Special Collections including current and emerging technologies and trends.
 
Contribute to UL&LS initiatives that further UNM's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
 
May teach credit course in the UL&LS Organization, Information, and Learning Sciences program.
 

 Requirements

 
Minimum Qualifications:

 
An earned master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library/information sciences program or equivalent or an earned Ph.D. degree in the humanities or social sciences.
 
Five years of progressively responsible experience as a special collections librarian/archivist in the past ten years.
 
Three years of management experience.
 

 Preferred Qualifications:

 Second master’s degree or a Ph.D. degree in the humanities or social sciences.

Christopher Center Library Services and Valparaiso University are committed to fostering a diverse student body and faculty. We are pleased to announce an open position for the 2016-18 Library Fellow. This two-year faculty position provides the opportunity for an entry-level librarian, with a demonstrated commitment to diverse and historically underrepresented groups, to gain professional experience as an academic librarian.
 
As a member of the University faculty, the Library Fellow should be interested in working at a university engaged in issues in Christian higher education and in the Lutheran tradition. She or he will also demonstrate a commitment to cultural diversity and the ability to work with individuals or groups from diverse backgrounds. The Library Fellow will benefit from immediate opportunities in scholarly and professional development, faculty governance of the library, library policy creation, and service on library and campus committees and task forces. Current library faculty are engaged in a wide range of professional and campus-related activities, from embedded librarianship to scholarly communication initiatives, from writing-across-the-curriculum programming to changing service models, and welcome a new colleague’s interests and insights.
 
The program is designed for a two-year commitment. During the first year, the librarian will gain meaningful, introductory work experience within the library’s centralized Library Research Services Department, encompassing information literacy, digital learning materials, programming, outreach, assessment, and access services. In consultation with the Director of Library Research Services, and other librarians as appropriate, the Library Fellow will begin to develop an original research project, one which can be conducted during the fellowship, culminating in a presentation or peer-reviewed publication. Also across both years, the Library Fellow will have the opportunity to partner with another librarian as a subject liaison to an academic program. Liaison work includes providing specialized student information literacy instruction and consultation, collaborating with disciplinary faculty, and working with collections and information resources in specific subject areas. 
 
Status, Salary, and Benefits
 
This is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty appointment at the Lecturer level with yearly 12 month contracts. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position offers immediate eligibility for the full benefits package (TIAA/CREF retirement; life insurance; medical, dental, and vision care benefits). This position also receives 20 vacation days in addition to University holidays and other fringe benefits and special discounts.

This position is a member of the Content & Collections (C&C) division of the University Libraries in the Open Scholarship & Publishing Services (OSPS) unit of the Content Services Department. Content Services has two units: Interlibrary Loan, and Open Scholarship & Publishing Services. The services within OSPS include Copyright Permissions and Information Services, and Publishing Services. C&C is led by the Associate University Librarian for Content & Collections, and the position reports to the Director of Content Services. The successful candidate will collaborate with the 5 members of the Publishing Services team, as well as with librarians and staff across the University Libraries.
 
We are seeking an outgoing, proactive, engaged professional who can develop collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and students throughout the University to provide consultations on scholarly publishing topics as well as launching new publications. This professional will also be responsible for creating new tools, programs, and initiatives that respond to changes in scholarly publishing needs.  Areas of responsibility include content management of the 2 publishing platforms we are currently working with (bepress’ Digital Commons and a locally installed Wordpress instance), overall management of all new publication launches, the publication proposal review process, and consultations on scholarly publishing topics. The librarian will contribute to the broader efforts of a Libraries-wide team that focuses on scholarly communications and open access support. Responsibilities of the Publishing Services Librarian:
 
 
Chairs the meetings of the Publishing Services Team which manages and develops cost-effective and efficient strategies for publishing content including guidelines, quality control procedures, and project documentation.
 
Seeks opportunities to partner with a diverse population of UMN affiliated researchers in digital scholarly publishing projects.  
 
In collaboration with the Data Management and Access department of the Libraries, organizes access to U Libraries’ developed publications and related resources using traditional and emerging metadata schema and appropriate identifiers.
 
In collaboration with other library services, promotes the offerings of the Open Scholarship and Publishing Services unit through web presence, email communications, exhibits, etc.
 
Provides consultations and referrals on scholarly & digital publishing options, publishing models, assessing the quality of a journal or publisher, content licensing, and other academic publishing topics.

Qualifications
