Good evening GBP members!
I would like to invite you to the Tour de Knox Bike Rally on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:15 p.m., April 24.
Think of the Bike Rally as a “Scavenger Hunt on Wheels.” It is lots of fun.
Here is how it will work.
You will receive a map of checkpoints scattered around campus and along nearby greenways. Your goal is to visit as many checkpoints as you can and get back to the starting point within 75 minutes. At each checkpoint, you will receive tickets for a raffle. The further away or the more difficult the checkpoint is, the more tickets you can earn. You will need a good strategy to earn as many tickets as possible.
Prizes will include bicycles, helmets, pumps, bike computers and clothing. Partners this year include Echelon Bicycles in Farragut, REI and Kickstand, a local bike collective.
When: 2:00 to 4:15 pm.
Where: Lot 9 at the corner of Phillip Fulmer Way and Peyton Manning Pass.
Cost: $15 for adults, $10 for students, and free for children under 12 years of age.
Registration: http://www.tourdeknox.com<http://www.tourdeknox.com/>
Time line:
1:00 pm – Onsite registration and bike rentals open.
2:00 pm - Short safety drill and introduction of Legacy Parks Foundation and sponsors.
2:15 pm – Hand out of map showing all checkpoints for everyone to study for 15 minutes and decide on their plan for visiting the checkpoints.
2:30 pm - Riders begin their self-guided ride to key points around UT’s campus and along the greenways. Riders will have 75 minutes to visit as many of the checkpoints as possible
3:45 pm – All riders must return and enter their tickets into the raffle.
4:00 pm - Start the raffle drawing for prizes.
4:15 pm – Conclude the Bike Rally
This event is hosted by students in my service learning class for the benefit of the Legacy Parks Foundation. Legacy Parks is a land conservancy that works to expand parks, create trails and increase access to rivers in East Tennessee. The team is also working to promote a strong bike culture and safety mindset on UT’s campus and around the city of Knoxville. Its overall mission is to make biking better for everyone in the greater Knoxville area.
We are also looking for volunteers to help out. If you need service hours, this is a great opportunity. You can volunteer at the registration web site at: http://www.tourdeknox.com<http://www.tourdeknox.com/>
