Subject: Children's/youth public librarian job opening - new library science graduates encouraged to apply

Dear library/information science program staff,

There is a professional-level job opening for a children's and youth librarian at the Silver City Public Library in Silver City, New Mexico. I am reaching out to as many library and information science programs as I can, because this could be an excellent opportunity for someone who is just finishing up their MLS/MLIS. Please inform your students about this opportunity. I have attached the full job description and application. Instructions for submitting your application can be found here: http://townofsilvercity.org/r/town_of_silver_city_NM.php?r=72,vmk8j Please do not hesitate to contact us here at the Silver City Public Library if you have a question about the application process. For example, we would like MLS/MLIS students to know that the experience section of the job description can be interpreted broadly. Experience working with children and/or youth in any setting, volunteer or paid, library or non-library, can count towards your total experience. I was hired as a professional-level librarian at the Silver City Public Library within a year of earning my MLS from the University of Maryland. This library has been a fantastic place to launch my career because of the flexibility of a small organization and my supervisors’ openness to innovation and experimentation. We are passionate about our library and our community, and we will be very happy to talk to you about it! Contact Lillian Galloway or Ken Dayer at 575-538-3672 or [log in to unmask]. Thank you for your assistance!

Sincerely,

Lillian Galloway
