Founded in 2004, the Ambassadors are the undergraduate arm of recruitment for the college. The purpose of the Ambassadors is to recruit prospective students to the College of Engineering, involve the college's student body in its goals, and stimulate community interest in the field of engineering. The application is available online on the Ambassador website. Submissions are due by 4:00 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2016, in 316A Perkins Hall. The DHEC operates within the ASME and functions to promote mechanical engineering education through a wide variety of activities which includes benchmarking educational programs and dissemination of best practices to fellow department heads and faculty across the country. Dongarra, who serves as director of the Innovative Computing Laboratory at UT, was chosen by readers of HPCwire Magazine as one of its two recipients of the award for Outstanding Leadership in High Performance Computing (HPC). The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently chose Trinh for one of its prestigious NSF CAREER awards, given to promising young faculty members as a way to support particular areas of research. That could soon change. Research being done by professors like Dr. Takeshi Egami has shown the potential of metallic glass, but it took a recent move to the substance by a tech heavyweight to really open up its potential. Egami is a UT-Oak Ridge National Laboratory Distinguished Scientist and professor of materials science and engineering. Titled "Regional/urban Emission Inventory in Asia Pacific Region," the session's key focus was on recent evaporative emissions in Asia and Europe that caused increasing ozone and PM2.5. Their project is one of twelve recently selected for the three-year grant. Chen is a research professor and education diversity director for CURENT (Center for Ultra-Wide-Area Resilient Electric Energy Transmission Networks) and an adjunct professor in the Department of Sociology. The policy brief explores the state's approach to roadway funding, and recommends increasing gasoline or diesel tax rates, adding additional sales or excise taxes, or applying a tax based on vehicle miles traveled. Wortman worked specifically in both manufacturing and converting departments for bath tissue. As a mechanical engineering co-op, his tasks revolved around making certain the machine equipment was running effectively and efficiently to ensure that the paper created met company and customer standards. Day-to-day, he worked with Senior level engineers conducting analysis on draws within the drives on converting equipment, to inspecting the Yankee dryers, essential to creating the paper. There have been many beneficial opportunities for him to grow, and develop, as an aspiring engineer. Wortman had many opportunities to design practical additions to the machines knowing they would improve the functionality of the machines in some way. As many of these upgrades will take place after his return to UT, he has spent many hours creating detailed assembly drawings, and documents, with information that will allow for the installation of these design projects to remain rather self-explanatory even with his absence. This challenge simply reiterates the importance of being able to communicate through all media outlets to effectively meet a project’s goal.
