Fall break is just around the corner, and Halloween is just a few weeks away. We’re almost halfway through the semester, but there’s still plenty for you to do around campus and in Knoxville. Here’s our top picks for five things for you to do this month.

Join Us for a Renaming Ceremony

You are invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the renaming of the Black Cultural Center as the Frieson Black Cultural Center at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow. The center is being named for accomplished businessmen and UT alumni Ron and Don Frieson, who recently gave $1 million to the university to further the work of the center.

SGA to Host Hog Roast This Saturday

Join the SGA Graduate Student Senate and the Traditions Committee for a “Hog Roast” before the Arkansas game from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. this Saturday outside Dunford Hall. The food is free, and the event gives you the chance to meet and socialize with SGA representatives before the big game. All students are invited to attend.

Graduate Admissions and Career Workshops

Attend two workshops next week to help you prepare for graduate school. The first session, “Gaining Admission into Highly Competitive Graduate Programs,” begins at 4:00 p.m. while “Beginning with the End in Mind: How to Come out of this with a Job” begins at 6:00 p.m. Both workshops take place on Tuesday, October 6, in the Hodges Library Auditorium.

Grab a Ride to West Tennessee During Breaks

Are you planning to travel to Jackson or Memphis, Tennessee, over Thanksgiving Break? If so, UT offers a low-cost option for you to travel home. Each year, the UT to West Tennessee program provides transportation to and from West Tennessee for students over Thanksgiving break, winter break, and spring break. WUTK Celebrates College Radio Day Tomorrow

UT’s student radio station, WUTK 90.3 The Rock, will celebrate “World College Radio Day” tomorrow. Make sure to tune in to hear live interviews, in-station musical performances, and surprise announcements during the celebration. Each year, more than 500 college and university student radio stations in more than 30 countries come together to recognize the value of student radio.

Pride Center to Host Events Next Week

The Pride Center is celebrating Pride Week Sunday, October 4, through Friday, October 9. Events include safe zone workshops, an ice cream social, a student panel, and a festival. LGBT+ students and allies, those who support LGBT+ individuals, are encouraged to RSVP for events here.

Register for Experiential Learning Symposium

Interested in sharing your experiential learning work through a poster, presentation, performance, or work of art? Submit an abstract to present at this symposium, which showcases experiential learning from colleges and universities across the state. The event is from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, October 30 in Hodges Library. Those who would like to attend but not present are encouraged to register as an attendee.
