McHenry County College in Crystal Lake, IL has an opening for a full-time Cataloging & Collection Development Librarian. This position will start in January 2016.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Perform a variety of types of cataloging and cataloging functions, utilizing the appropriate cataloging tools, resources, and formats with availability daytime, evening and weekends
• Responsible for library collection development and collection maintenance, including but not limited to selection, acquisition, processing, inventory, and withdrawal of library resources
• Monitor curriculum changes, coordinate with faculty, and gather/analyze data to ensure that the library’s collection meets the needs of its stakeholders
• Develop and recommend policies and procedures related to the library’s cataloging and collection development operations
• Review and recommend new vendor services and utilize data to make recommendations regarding the renewal of subscription-based resources/services
• Establish and carry out goals related to the cataloging and collection development functions of the library
• Responsible for the library aspect of new course/program proposals and program reviews
• Provide reference service on an ongoing basis; conduct library instruction; participate in the information literacy program
• Provide back-up coverage at the Circulation Desk
• Provide statistical information and reports required by the Dean
• Participate in job-related professional activities and continuing education
• Serve on college committees and participate in college activities
• Provides direction to the Library Technical Services / Systems Coordinator and the Library Secretary on Technical Services matters
• Participate in College governance through, but not limited to, committee work and advising of students
• Support continuous quality improvement through participation in AQIP
• Work cooperatively, collaboratively and collegially within the department, as well as with faculty and staff throughout the College in striving for educational excellence; ability to interact with students in a positive and professional manner
• Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited library school program

DUTIES: | Supervises, hires, trains, evaluates and schedules Youth Services staff within a regional location or Headquarters Library to ensure policies and procedures are followed, customers are given efficient, prompt, and competent assistance, and pleasant working conditions are maintained. Assists customers in computer labs. Develops and conducts age-appropriate programs within and outside the library, including but not limited to coordinating and delivering deposit collections to local child care centers during outreach visits. Provides assistance to customers at the service at the Youth Services desk or Adult Information Desk by assisting with information requests and readers' advisory. Assists customers with computer labs. Oversees Youth Services collection development including print and electronic materials under the direction of the Youth Services Coordinator, and contributes to system wide collection development areas, including responsibility for expending a designated portion of Youth Services materials budget; purging obsolete and worn materials; and making recommendations for replacement materials. Develops plans for Youth Services programming to ensure adequate number of programs for children and their caregivers are provided and effectively promotes programs using system resources. Acts as person in charge and mediates customer service issues in the absence of location manager. Discusses with supervisor work methods, problems, short- and long-range developments and/or plans. Actively participates in Youth Services Council and coordinated programming among all locations as determined by the Youth Services Coordinator, and makes recommendations for programs, policies, and procedures. Promotes library Youth Services and programs through, but not limited to public outreach such as informational fairs, school and/or child care center visits, and writing occasional articles as requested. Science Liaison and Reference Librarian- Collections, Research & Instruction
The Science Liaison and Reference Librarian will develop and manage research collections that include the sciences, mathematics, statistics and computer science, which combined have a materials budget of $2,600,000. She/He will also foster the development and expansion of research and instruction activities to meet the information needs and support the research and curricular goals of the University’s science programs. The incumbent actively engages with faculty, students, and staff in assigned areas, developing strong relationships and promoting the Library’s relevant services and collections.
Actual assignments will be made based on the successful candidate’s experience and interests.
This position works directly with students (graduate and undergraduate), faculty, researchers, other University staff and administrators, University alumni, and members of the public.
With a second Science Liaison and Reference Librarian, the incumbent in this position develops collections housed in the Blommer Science Library and supports the students and faculty who use that library location primarily Blommer Science Library and is responsible for meeting the Information needs of users in at that location. The position reports directly to the Head of Collections, Research and Instruction.
