Responsibilities. The Assistant Director for Public Services oversees all branch operations, including: monitoring and evaluating public services and preparing goals for changes in service, resources, and programs based on statistical data; analyzing personnel requirements and overseeing employees through six direct reports; monitoring financial expenditures, including making adjustments as needed to remain within budgetary guidelines and developing annual budget requests; providing instruction to customers in the use of all technology resources and library policies and procedures; serving as a liaison for public services staff to other library departments and to the community—all under the direction of the Library Director.  For the full job description, please visit Live Oak ADPS.

 

Qualifications. This position requires a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited university; a minimum of five years progressive supervision/management experience in a library setting, including supervision of professional and non-professional staff; eligibility for certification from the State of Georgia Board of Certification of Librarians; the ability to obtain a valid GA Driver’s License; advanced knowledge of computer use, including ILS, Internet and electronic databases.  Experience supervising a system-wide department or multiple library locations is preferred. 

 

This position offers a hiring salary range of $60,050 - $72,915 (dependent on experience and qualifications) and an attractive benefits package.

Digital Scholarship Librarian

Responsibilities. Under the direction of the Library Board, the Library Director is responsible for identifying, planning, organizing, executing and evaluating an effective library program for the community. Qualifications. A Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited graduate library school (eligibility for Professional Level I KY certification); and a minimum of three years (seven years or more preferred) of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.   Essential attributes include experience in staff management, budget administration and working in a non-profit, community-based environment; excellent public relations skills with the Library patrons, the general public and the media; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with the board and staff; well-developed organizational skills; excellent knowledge of and ability with computerized library methods and services; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; knowledge of budgeting and accounting practices.  Successful director experience reporting to a governing board and experience working on a building project are preferred.

 

Compensation.  The starting salary range is $96,299-$110,684 (placement being dependent on experience and qualifications) with an attractive benefits package.

Assistant or Associate Medical Librarian (Emerging Technologies Librarian)


The Harriet F. Ginsburg Health Sciences Library, University of Central Florida, College of Medicine in Orlando, Florida is seeking applicants for a team-oriented, enthusiastic emerging technologies librarian. This is a mid-career, non-tenure track faculty position. The successful candidate will provide instruction on use of evidence based medicine apps to College of Medicine students and faculty. The successful candidate will also lead the library in promoting and implementing new technologies for use in the medical education curriculum and for patient care.
The appointment includes an internal title of emerging technologies librarian and head of library technology and information services.


Position Minimum Qualifications • Master’s degree in Library and Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited institution.
Preferences
• At least 3-5 years of teaching and presentation experience, in particular experience providing instruction on use of evidence based medicine resources; 
• Demonstrated experience in identifying and evaluating emerging technologies; 
• Demonstrated experience with implementing and managing emerging and/or mobile technologies in a library setting; 

• Record of research, presentation, and publication;
• AHIP membership.

Develops plans for Youth Services programming to ensure adequate number of programs for children and their caregivers are provided and effectively promotes programs using system resources. Acts as person in charge and mediates customer service issues in the absence of location manager. Discusses with supervisor work methods, problems, short- and long-range developments and/or plans. Actively participates in Youth Services Council and coordinated programming among all locations as determined by the Youth Services Coordinator, and makes recommendations for programs, policies, and procedures. Promotes library Youth Services and programs through, but not limited to public outreach such as informational fairs, school and/or child care center visits, and writing occasional articles as requested. Compiles, prepares and maintains departmental reports, records, statistics, and budget information. Participates in professional training and activities to keep current on issues and trends and to further professional development. Provides Youth Services training under the direction of the Youth Services Coordinator, including, but not limited to:  Children's literature, puppetry, storytelling, book talking, programming skills, reader's advisory and reference. Participates in planning special events, including but not limited to: Summer Reading Club, Children's Book Week, and Teen Read Week, and other special events. Maintains an attractive and inviting department. Works collaboratively with community agencies serving youth. Science Liaison and Reference Librarian- Collections, Research & Instruction

The Science Liaison and Reference Librarian will develop and manage research collections that include the sciences, mathematics, statistics and computer science, which combined have a materials budget of $2,600,000. She/He will also foster the development and expansion of research and instruction activities to meet the information needs and support the research and curricular goals of the University’s science programs.  The incumbent actively engages with faculty, students, and staff in assigned areas, developing strong relationships and promoting the Library’s relevant services and collections. 

Actual assignments will be made based on the successful candidate’s experience and interests. 

This position works directly with students (graduate and undergraduate), faculty, researchers, other University staff and administrators, University alumni, and members of the public. 

With a second Science Liaison and Reference Librarian, the incumbent in this position develops collections housed in the Blommer Science Library and supports the students and faculty who use that library location primarily Blommer Science Library and is responsible for meeting the Information needs of users in at that location.  The position reports directly to the Head of Collections, Research and Instruction.

Requirements:

  • Masters in Library Science (MLS) accredited by the American Library Association, or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in the sciences, math, statistics, computer science or related field preferred
  • Knowledge of or experience with information resources in the sciences, math, statistics and/or computer science
  • Two years minimum experience in the provision of public services (reference and instruction) in an academic or research library setting
  • Ability to work with diverse, research-oriented students and faculty

Other Skills: Successful performance requires analytical ability, initiative, imagination, and excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as a broad-based interest in and current awareness of information technology applications for the delivery of scientific information.
