SCPLS GENEALOGY & HISTORY CENTER 2015 GENEALOGY CONFERENCE: HEROES FROM THE PAST: FAMILY & FRIENDS

SEVIER COUNTY, TN – The Sevier County Public Library System (SCPLS) hosts the 2015 Genealogy Conference: Heroes from the Past: Family & Friends from Thursday, November 5 – Saturday, November 7.  The annual genealogy conference will be held in the SCPLS King Family Library Rel & & Wilma Maples History Center, 408 High Street, in Sevierville.

Conference Schedule:

November 5 - Day 1, Pre-Conference & Story Telling Dinner

•         12:00 – 4:00PM – Bus Tour of Historic Boyd’s Creek Community in Sevier County presented by Carroll McMahan, Sevier County Historian. Includes a stop at Wheatlands Plantation House for light refreshment.

o   $20.00 fee historic bus tour only.

o   Cost included with full conference registration fee.

o   Maximum of twenty (20) tour attendees.

o   Full Conference registrants will have 1st option for bus tour seating until tour is full.

•         6:00PM – Story Telling Dinner with John Sevier                     Lynn Fox will portray John Sevier while Jane Muldoon appears as Bonnie Kate

November 6 - Day 2, Conference Sessions

•         10:30AM – 12:00PM – “Ready-Set-Plan” presented by J. Mark Lowe, Professional Genealogist

•         1:00 – 2:15PM – “Before Tennessee: The Records Before Statehood” presented by J. Mark Lowe, Professional Genealogist

•         2:30 – 3:00PM – “Out on a Limb: Trapped by Bad Research” presented by J. Mark Lowe, Professional Genealogist

•         3:30 – 5:00PM - “But He Wasn’t a Minister: Finding a Baptist Ancestor Using Court Records” presented by J. Mark Lowe, Professional Genealogist

 

November 7 - Day 3, Conference Sessions

•         10:30AM – 12:00PM – “PK: Preacher’s Kids: Stories of Growing Up as the Child of a Preacher” presented by Theresa Williams, SCPLS Genealogist, Ruth Matthews, & Ruth Carr Miller

•         1:00 – 2:15PM – “Whiskey, Brandy, and Southern Migration” presented by J. Mark Lowe, Professional Genealogist

•         2:30 – 5:00PM – “Diamonds, Rubies, and Lumps of Coal” presented by J. Mark Lowe, Professional Genealogist

 

The registration fee for the three-day conference, including the pre-conference, will be $50.00 if registration is received before October 15.  After October 15, the cost of the conference will be $60.00.  Completed registration form and payment should be sent to SCPLS Foundation, 408 High Street, Sevierville, TN 37862.
