Fall 2015 Engineering Expo
The
Office of Engineering Practice held their Fall 2015 Engineering Expo in Thompson-Boling Arena on Thursday. More than seventy companies were in attendance to talk with engineering students about cooperative education and internship education assignment with
their organizations. Adding engineering experience to a student’s education is one of the most valuable things they can do while at the University of Tennessee to improve their educational process and prepare them for their future.
Featured Student: Kyle Brashear
Kyle Brashear
is a project engineer co-op this fall at the Georgia-Pacific paper mill in Dothan, Alabama. He describes the department he works in and responsibilities.
"As a project engineer co-op at Georgia Pacific, I assist the engineers in organizing certain parts of an ongoing or future project in our facilities," said Brashear. "So far, I’ve been involved in meetings with contractors and engineers where I observe the
planning process for the installation of new machinery and discuss any details in the equipment drawings. I’ve taken on the leg work of a few projects, with the oversight of my supervisor by keeping him up to date on any progress or decisions I’ve made on
the project site."
Currently, Brashear's main projects are the installation of turnstiles to be used by mill employees, the replacement of light fixtures in the company's shipping area, gathering electrical cable for a motor, replacing a transformer, and the installation of a
mill-wide alarm system.
"In a few weeks, I’ll be working day shifts during a mill outage, where part of the mill is shut down for large amounts of maintenance and installation of new machinery," said Brashear. "I’ve learned so much practical information and I can definitely see how
this will benefit me in the classroom when I come back to UT."
Students, please note: If you receive a co-op or internship offer, please contact Engineering Professional Practice for help with paperwork and any preparations you may need – [log in to unmask],

updates on co-op and internship programs.
Students may read more about their peers' co-op experiences by logging into their Engineering Professional Practice profile via www.coop.utk.edu, clicking
"Resource Library" (on the left margin) and selecting "Students at Work–In Their Own Words." For information on engineering co-op and internships, contact [log in to unmask] or
