Cleveland State Community College is looking for a part-time reference
assistant. This is a temporary position, authorized for the 2015-2016
academic year. Approximately 20 hours/week, evenings and weekends. Some
flexibility may be available. Expected start date would be the week of
August 17 for training, with regular schedule starting August 24. Minimum
qualification is a bachelor's degree (any subject). Please see below for a

TITLE: Evening/Weekend Library Reference Assistant

REPORTING SUPERVISOR: Director of Library Services

JOB OBJECTIVES: The Evening/Weekend Library Reference Assistant delivers
reference services to the campus community in a welcoming, progressive, and
customer-focused environment. Reference services include supporting
students as they navigate the research process, assisting with technology
questions, and referring customers to campus resources according to their
need. In addition to walk-up questions at the Reference Desk, reference
services at Cleveland State Community College are provided by e-mail,
telephone, text, and chat.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

   - Create an open, customer–focused environment to effectively provide
   reference services to the campus community and general public.
   - Assist library users with research, including locating, evaluating,
   and citing relevant library resources in all formats (including electronic
   formats).
   - Assist library users with campus technologies, including basic
   computer questions, printing, scanning, copying, and various online
   platforms employed by Cleveland State in the delivery of services/courses.
   - Available to work approximately 20 hours/week: Monday-Thursday
   evenings until library closing at 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays 10:00 a.m.-2:00
   p.m. Flexibility to schedule additional hours for training. Position is
   available during Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 semesters, excluding holidays
   and academic breaks.


JOB STANDARDS:


   - Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in library or information
   sciences (or equivalent) preferred.
   - Coursework in providing reference services or a background in library
   services or education preferred.
   - Academic library experience preferred.
   - Demonstrated customer service experience.


JOB LOCATION:

The Library at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee,
is the primary workplace.

EQUIPMENT:

Work activities routinely involve using personal computers, mobile devices,
Microsoft Office products, photocopiers, scanners, and microfilm reader.
Work activities occasionally involve multimedia software and other
instructional technologies.

CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE/EXPERIENCE:


   - Basic understanding of library organization.
   - Ability to use diverse information tools and services, such as the
   library’s online catalog and databases, to provide reference services.
   - Enthusiastic commitment to quality service for library users of all
   skill levels.
   - Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
   - Interest in working in a technology-saturated environment and
   troubleshooting technology issues as they arise.
