A Look Back at Our Summer and August Favorites

The fall semester is well underway and August has already been full of big momentsómove-in, Welcome Week, and the first few days of classes. Take a look at some of our favorite moments captured this month along with many of our summer favorites.


New Safety Features Offered through UT App

The UT app has added a new feature, Guardian, to enhance your safety and improve two-way communication with UTPD. Create a virtual safety network of friends or family members using a safety timer that allows your selected “guardian” to look out for you when you’re traveling between destinations or to unfamiliar settings. You can also share anonymous tips or call UTPD for immediate help. Learn more about Guardian features and steps to set up your account.



Request Your UT vs. Oklahoma Football Ticket This Week

Set a reminder for this Wednesday to request your ticket for the Sept. 12 home opener football game against Oklahoma on Big Orange Tix. Students who have paid their full university programs and services fee can go to home football games for just $10 a game. Don’t forget to sign up for UTís Student Rewards, a free loyalty-based program that rewards you when you attend designated athletic events.


Microsoft Office 365 Now Offers Clutter Feature

Microsoft is enabling the Office 365 Clutter feature for all UT e-mail accounts. Clutter is designed to move low priority messages out of your Inbox and into your Clutter folder, saving you time when you scan for important messages. Learn more about the new feature.


New Name, New Location, and New Services

This summer, the Center for Career Development announced its new name after moving to its new location on level two of the new Student Union. The center has also introduced expanded walk-in hours and services in an effort to be more accessible to students. Learn more about the center’s expanded offerings.



Daily Beacon Debuts Newly Launched Website

The Daily Beacon, UTís student newspaper, is working to better serve readers with more online exclusive content about life in Knoxville and on campus. Visit the newly launched website, then provide your feedback about the changes. Your responses will be used to help the organization better suit your needs.

Student Organization Development Workshops

If you are a member of a student organization, learn about fundraising, event planning, risk management, communicating, or recruitment during development workshops on September 2, 17, and 30, October 20, and November 2. All workshops begin at 5:30 p.m. in Hodges Room 253. Register on VOLink.

Get to Know Faculty and Staff through Lunch Hours

Invite a faculty or staff member to lunch free of charge on Tuesdays and Fridays at Presidential Court Cafe, the Student Union, or Southern Kitchen in Volunteer Hall through Lunch Hours. To participate, extend an invitation to a faculty or staff member that you would like to get to know better. Contact the Office of the Dean of Students beginning today to reserve a pair of lunch passes.

Writers in the Library Kicks Off Tonight

Writers in the Library begins the year with a reading by Margaret Lazarus Dean at 7:00 p.m. tonight in the Hodges Library Auditorium. Dean, winner of the prestigious Graywolf Press Nonfiction Prize and a former recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Literature Fellowship, is the author of both a novel and a memoir about the NASA space shuttle program.
