GRC:

A few more thanks and announcements for the GRRS.  We wanted to say thank you to the following researchers that helped with Beta testing.  Their contributions improved the functionality of the GRRS.

Jason Hoverman, Purdue University

David Lesbarreres, Laurentian University

Danna Schock, Keyano College

Dede Olson’s Lab, U.S. Forest Service

Stephen Price, University College London

Yvonne Black, University of Edinburgh

Rolando Mazzoni, Universidade Federal de Goiás

Yumi Une, Azabu University

Also, we wanted everyone to be aware of the use disclaimer, which is available at:

https://mantle.io/grrs/terms

Lastly, there are several instructional videos on the GRRS website (https://mantle.io/grrs/help); however, we wanted to share a 5-min video that EHA made highlighting the GRRS’ capabilities.

Thanks much again to everyone involved in conceiving and creating the GRRS.  We’ve already heard that it might serve as a template for Bsal reporting.

All the Best, Matt

Subject: Global Ranavirus Reporting System is Live!

Dear GRC:

The Global Ranavirus Reporting System (GRRS) is live!!

https://mantle.io/grrs

Here is a press release:

http://www.ecohealthalliance.org/press/108-ecohealth_alliance_and_the_u_s_forest_service_develop_online_global_ranavirus_reporting_system

Many thanks to the scientists and programmers at the EcoHealth Alliance (Andrew Huff, Russell Horton, Nathan Breit, Amy Slagle), Dede Olson (U.S. Forest Service), and several GRC members (Jesse Brunner, Amanda Duffus, Debra Miller) for their efforts in creating this state-of-the-art online geospatial database for ranaviruses.  Unlike many mapping systems, supportive evidence can be uploaded with each case including photos and diagnostic information.  Records can be sorted and uploaded by various case attributes including host and ranavirus species, population type (captive vs. wild), and diagnostic techniques.

We encourage all ranavirus researchers to upload previously confirmed cases (published and unpublished) of ranavirus infection and disease by 31 December 2015.  Once the GRRS is populated, its full potential will be realized.  You can upload cases as individual records or in bulk with a CSV file.  After files are uploaded, a database manager will inspect them before they are released publically.  Records can be shared with the public fully or obfuscated.  Video and written instructions are provided on the GRRS website.  Additionally, questions and suggestions for improvement can be emailed to Amanda Duffus ([log in to unmask]) or Jesse Brunner ([log in to unmask]).

All the Best,

Matt
