Dear Colleagues -

Over the past couple of years we've gotten much feedback on the process of creating assessment plans and reports. One issue that was discussed by multiple people at multiple times was including the college and institutional review notes within the actual student learning outcome reports. It was the field named "College and Institutional Review Notes," located at the end of the form. Since the form was open to all to see, there was a concern about sharing the reviews to "everyone at the university."

Based on input from several people and in conversation with the associate deans, the Assessment Steering Committee created a new form - Feedback Form - intended for the college- and institution-level reviewers to provide feedback to programs on how to continue to strengthen their assessment plans and reporting.

Now, when you enter the Planning Module in Compliance Assist, you will see that the Program / Major Student Learning Outcome Form no longer has that review notes field. All data included for the 2013-2014 academic year was transferred to the new Feedback form. This form can only be viewed by those who have access to the department and the specific programs in the department. If you do not have permission as a contributor or administrator for a department, you will not see the feedback form. Please note, if there is no feedback form completed for a program, there was no notes in the review field for the outcomes.

The feedback form also has two choice boxes that allow college and institutional reviewers select a rating of "Level of the Overall Report" and any number of "Areas of Concern." Both are intended for the Assessment Steering Committee to run reports to share with associate deans a summary of the assessment plans - quality and concerns - and to help us identify topics or areas of needed faculty and staff development.

We have asked the associate deans to use the new feedback form for the review of the 2014-2015 assessment reports, which are due to the colleges by September 15 (some colleges have established internal deadlines that differ, please adhere to those deadlines).

If you want to learn more about the form and how the form will be completed, go to http://sacs.utk.edu/resources/ to find the How-to-Guide called College Review Feedback Form.

Again, thanks for all you do to help improve the learning environment for our students.

Sincerely,

Mary
