The Geography Department at the University of Kentucky has decided to try something new in the growing field of online graduate education in GIS and mapping. We're calling it New Maps Plus, and it focuses on open source technologies for mapping and spatial analysis and user-centered geovisualizations, while engaging students to think critically about the history and meaning of cartography and the social implications of digital mapping. We are offering both a graduate certificate (11 credits) and a Master's of Science (30 credits). All the details are at the program's webpage<http://newmapsplus.uky.edu/> including the full listing of courses<http://newmapsplus.uky.edu/new-maps-plus-programs-and-online-courses> and some samples of student work<http://newmapsplus.uky.edu/explore-new-maps>.

The first classes begin October 4th and we welcome all enquiries and questions. We will be sharing updates to the program on Facebook<https://www.facebook.com/NewMapsPlus> and Twitter<https://twitter.com/NewMapsPlus/> including samples of courses and other tutorials.
