Position Summary
Reporting to the Metadata Coordinator, this creative librarian will generate metadata for past and future digital projects covering a variety of media types. The librarian shall work collaboratively with staff across the Library, the University and beyond on services and projects that depend upon metadata for success.  Utilizing standards and best practices the librarian will establish efficient workflows for data creation and maintenance, including descriptive, technical and administrative metadata.  Emphasis will be placed on activities that facilitate user discovery, access and the long-term stewardship of Library collections.

This librarian will participate approximately quarter-time in a secondary assignment based on qualifications, interests and need; may include work in areas such as cataloging, catalog services, reference, or collection development.

Librarians are appointed as regular faculty in the continuing appointment system and are engaged in professional development and scholarly activities related to their position in addition to serving on library and university committees as elected or assigned.

Michigan State University Libraries serve more the 4,900 faculty, 36,000 undergraduates, and 11,000 graduate and professional students on a park-like campus of over 5,000 acres. The Main Library and 4 branch libraries have combined holdings of over 5 million volumes. East Lansing is a community of 50,000 located adjacent to Lansing, the State capital.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in information or library science from a program accredited by the American Library Association. Broad understanding of emerging trends in non-MARC metadata formats, standards and schema; demonstrated experience with XML; familiarity with linked data concepts and practices; facility with selecting and applying controlled vocabularies;  knowledge of technologies for metadata management and interchange; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; ability to be flexible in a dynamic and changing environment; ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, students, and staff; ability to work independently and collaboratively; ability to prioritize and balance various unit needs; attention to detail. As librarians are appointed as regular faculty in the continuous appointment system, also required are preparation and commitment to scholarly activity and service consistent with a librarian appointment; and capacity and commitment to engage independently in continuing professional development.

Desired Qualifications
Understanding of MODS, Dublin Core, METS and RDF; knowledge of XSLT, Python and JSON; understanding of cataloging rules and tools, plus MARC; familiarity with repository software technologies, especially Fedora Commons and Islandora; and knowledge of preservation standards such as PREMIS.

Summary: Responsible for assessing, analyzing and training client agencies on government records and records management programs.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Analyze agency RDA needs and assist in determining retention guidelines, compiling supporting documentation, and submitting the application to the PRC.
  • Conduct agency assessments to advise client agencies in complying with records, laws, policies and procedures. Provide technical assistance in preparing for moves, data governance, records destruction, digital imaging and/or microfilming projects.
  • Communicate with records officers/coordinators, legal counsel, auditors and/or agency management in developing RDA’s, developing correspondence and records assessment.
  • Monitor the RDA submission/application process, prepare routine reports, and assist in the scheduling and set up of the PRC meeting.
  • Assist director in creating training and conduct training for client agencies on general records management as well as specific policy instruction.
  • Conduct research on records laws, policies and procedures to stay current on changes in legislation and court cases on both the federal and state level.
  • In the event of a disaster, enter dirty areas to recover paper records that may be wet or dirty. Assist in the assessment of the damage to records and assist in the site cleanup or supervision.

Desired Skills and Experience

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Specialized training in accounting, archives, business administration, history, library sciences or records management is desirable.
  • At least two years experience in an administrative office environment.
  • Professional experience in accounting, archives, higher education, government, legal or records management setting is desirable.
  • Experience working with records and information management, data governance, and/or digital imaging applications is preferred.

Research Services Librarian / Lecturer in Law Jean & Alexander Heard Libraries of Vanderbilt University Alyne Queener Massey Law Library DESCRIPTION: The Alyne Queener Massey Law Library at Vanderbilt University seeks a creative, energetic, and highly customer-oriented librarian to join our team. The Research Services Librarian will provide legal reference and research services, participate in the faculty liaison program, and teach legal research classes in the first-year Legal Research & Writing program. Typical Duties: 

When assigned to LIMITLESS LIBRARIES

  • Serves as Limitless Libraries’ circulation team leader, coordinating the responsibilities of all LL circulation team members.
  • Establishes quotas and circulation procedures for the Limitless Libraries circulation team in order to maximize workflow.
  • Checks out, sorts, and bags materials for delivery to schools.
  • Assists MNPS librarians, teachers, and students with account questions and pin resets.
