GSLA Positions Available John C. Hodges Library The Learning, Research, and Engagement Department of UT Libraries is looking for graduate students enrolled in the School of Information Sciences to work at the John C. Hodges Library’s Research Assistance Desk beginning Summer Semester 2015. For individuals interested in academic librarianship, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire reference experience and to develop public service skills. Responsibilities: The Graduate Student Library Assistant (GSLA) will provide the entire range of research assistance services at the Research Assistance Desk in Hodges Library, including instructing patrons in the use of information resources. Graduate students in this position will gain experience providing research assistance in-person as well as via chat, text, and email. GLSAs staff the Research Assistance Desk 6-9 pm, Monday through Thursday and 1-9 pm on Sundays during fall and spring semesters with adjusted schedules during the summer semester and intersessions. Qualifications: Required: · Strong public service ethic; · Excellent customer service skills; · Ability to work with and communicate with diverse patrons; · Available to work at least one night Mondays—Thursdays during Fall Semester, 6-9 p.m. · Currently enrolled as an SIS graduate student for Fall Semester 2015. Preferred: · Completion of SIS 530 (Information Access and Retrieval) · Experience in using the library, including the catalog and databases, as well as sophisticated Internet searching. Hourly Wage: $12.00 per hour (NOTE: The position of GSLA does not include a tuition waiver.)
