We’ve made it to the last month of
classes! It’s time to take a look back at some of our favorite moments of
March. Last month, some students enjoyed much-deserved rest during spring break
while others served various communities through Alternative Spring Break trips. Many
students also spent their free time outdoors enjoying the warm weather.

The City of Knoxville’s Cumberland
Avenue Project began this morning with utility work. Lane closures run from West
Volunteer Boulevard to Twenty-First Street. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each
direction. The entire project is estimated to be completed by August 2017. We will
continue to update you on the project’s progress and its impact on areas around
our campus. You can also follow
updates on the city’s Cumberland Connect website.

Chancellor Cheek and Dean of Students
Melissa Shivers surprised nine seniors to notify them that they had been selected as
Torchbearers. Congratulations to Rilwan Balogun, Matthew Barnett, Cierra Burdick,
Connor Dugosh, Kelsey Keny, Valerie King, Kenna Rewcastle, Julia Ross, and Christopher
Smith for being awarded the highest honor that a student can receive at the university.

aim to create safe spaces to have honest and open conversations about sex, sexuality,

event. The discussion begins at noon this Friday in the Toyota Auditorium of the Howard
H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy.
