Geographers,

There will be a meeting of graduate and undergraduate students from across the campus, who are interested in water-related issues, at 4 pm on April 27 in room 225 of the University Center.  In recent years, our department has been at the forefront of one component of this activity, as Julie McKnight helped lead the effort to create a student chapter of the American Water Resources Association on campus, and geographers Julie McKnight, Anna Alsobrook, Vi Tran, and Cathy Olsen all served as officers of that group (sorry if I missed anyone — geographers were instrumental in that effort).  This new, multidisciplinary effort reaches across colleges and extends to networking outside the university, with interactions with potential employers and other types of community engagement.  Water-related issues need  the expertise and perspectives of social scientists, as well as physical geographers, geographical information scientists, engineers, planners, and water users, so they should have a good contingent of geographers in this group.  Consider attending this interest meeting.
