POSITION: Assistant Professor of Library Science/Archivist and Head of the Ernest J. Gaines

Center

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports to the Dean of University Libraries and is responsible for arranging and describing contributions to the Ernest J. Gaines collection and further donations of papers and memorabilia by Ernest J. Gaines. The successful candidate will solicit, arrange and describe additional collections relevant to the aims of the Center; provide reference service; maintain the Center's website; prepare traditional and online exhibits; determine and carry out digitization projects utilizing the Center's manuscript holdings; promote outreach activities undertaken by the Center.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: MLS degree from an ALA-accredited program; wide knowledge of archival principles. Must be self-motivated, service oriented and able to work successfully in a collegial environment. Desired qualifications are an additional degree in English, History or related area and certified archivist credentials.

 

ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT: The University Library has a faculty of 17 and a support staff of 36. Additional  information about the library is available at http://library.louisiana.edu. UL Lafayette is located in Acadiana, the region of southwest Louisiana known for its Cajun and Creole heritage. It is one of 8 publicly supported universities in the University of Louisiana system. SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment with faculty rank, status, and benefits.
