Geography Majors!

[Note: Please pass this along to your friends and neighbors because this visit goes beyond just geography!]

This week, we have the honor of hosting Dr. Michael Goodchild of the University of California, Santa Barbara as this year’s Hammond Lecturer (see schedule below). As you’ve seen in the announcements around the Burchfiel Building, he is considered the father of Geographic Information Science, the field where many of you will be finding careers after graduation. I’m attaching his final schedule to this email and you’ll see that we have scheduled a luncheon for undergraduate students to meet personally with Dr. Goodchild on Thursday February 12th from 12:00 noon until 1:30, where he’ll talk about “Careers in GIS.” This literally will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so don’t miss out! (When I was an undergraduate, I remember hearing talks by some of the most famous geographers at the time and meeting them personally was a highlight of my undergrad career!)

Did I mention, the department is also furnishing box lunches from Aramark (the food people at the UC) and bottled water for undergraduates who show up and meet Dr. Goodchild!

So, Club Geography, this is a challenge to you: make this the most attended meeting ever hosted by the undergraduates in our department! I promise, it will be worth your time!

Thanks all!
