Here is a GIS Analyst position with national Audubon Society. This GIS Analyst position could work in San Francisco, another Audubon office, or remotely.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Climate Initiative Research Manager, the GIS Analyst is responsible for applying advanced skills in
data management, geoprocessing, landscape analysis, and map design to support regional, national, and hemispheric bird conservation initiatives. S/he supports Audubon Science’s conservation science group by assembling relevant spatial datasets, conducting
spatial analyses, and generating spatial data products such as geodatabases and maps. The work will involve close collaboration within the conservation science group and ongoing communication with internal and external Audubon partners.
Essential Functions:

Assist with biological data collection, data sharing, and data management.

Perform spatial analyses using ArcGIS desktop including Spatial Analyst.

Run and check outputs of geoprocessing scripts written in Python and R.

Provide support in cartographic design and setting up web-based applications in ArcGIS Online and Google Maps.

Support conservation science staff with dataset management, literature review, preparation of presentations, and writing of reports and/or scientific publications.

Effectively work with a team of conservation professionals within Audubon, as well as with outside organizations such as other NGOs and state and federal agencies.

Occasionally assist with avian field studies.
Qualifications and Experience:
-
Bachelor's Degree (or at least 3 years of completed coursework) in environmental studies, ecology, biology, geography or a related field required, as well as a minimum of one (1) year of GIS coursework
or equivalent professional experience.

Demonstrated cartographic (map design) experience.

Skilled in the use of ArcGIS desktop 10+.

Demonstrated experience running spatial analysis (geoprocessing) tools in ArcGIS desktop.

Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, especially Word and Excel.

Must have some previous experience and an interest in learning more about running scripted spatial analyses in Python and R.

Completion of an applied conservation GIS project a plus, as well as interest and education in wildlife ecology.

Familiarity with ArcGIS Online and Google Maps/Earth a plus.

Self-motivated, excited to learn, and willing to tackle problems independently by searching online discussion forums, user manuals, and help files.

A self-starter, one who posesses excellent judgment, can work independently, and collaborate well with team members across a decentralized organization.

Effective communicator, both orally and written.

Interest in working to promote bird conservation across the US and Americas, and passion for the mission of the National Audubon Society, a must.
