The spring semester is well underway and
January has already been full of big moments for UT—a bowl game win, some big
announcements, a few unseasonably sunny days, and students showcasing their Volunteer

How does the university spend the money
collected from the mandatory fees you pay? Our latest infographic breaks down the student programs and services fee and explains
how the fee provides the various programs and student services you use around campus.

deadlines
The deadline to apply for the continuing
student scholarship is February 1. This application is used to consider possible awards for
returning students. Follow self-service banner to the financial aid menu within MyUTK to access the application.
Vol Tip: Your first step to apply for grants, federal work-study,
scholarships including the HOPE scholarship, and student loans for the 2015–2016
academic year is to complete the FAFSA. The
application is due February 15. Use your 2013 taxes as an estimate on your FAFSA form if
you or your parents haven’t filed 2014 taxes yet. You can go back in the form later to
update 2014 tax information.

A documentary featuring the Ireland concert
tour of the UT Chamber Singers will air on East Tennessee PBS at 3:30 p.m. this Sunday.
The film, Journey to the Emerald Isle, captures the Chamber Singers choral
ensemble’s summer 2012 trip as they serenaded concert-goers in some of Ireland’s

live next year. The guide was released today as a special section in the newspaper filled
with everything you need to know about leasing an apartment or house, including
information on signing a lease, questions to ask your landlord, and even decorating tips.

Want to prepare yourself for the Spring Job
and Internship Fair? Attend the Career Fair Success Strategies Workshop at 4:00 p.m.
Thursday, February 5 in the UC Shiloh Room. You’ll hear from employers about
career fair “dos and don’ts” and how to best prepare for upcoming
fairs.
Vol Tip: Career Services also will offer resume critiques from
staff and employers. Walk-in appointments for critiques are available from 9:00 to 5:00
p.m. Thursday, February 5 in the Career Services office.

Learn about traditional Indian culture during
Monday’s coffeehouse, then learn how to make a Indian dish during Tuesday’s
cooking demonstration. Wrap up the week with a traditional Indian meal, presentations,
music, and dancing during culture night on Wednesday. All events begin at 6:00 p.m. in
the I-House Great Room.
