The University of Tennessee students are eligible to apply for the 2015 Volkswagen Distinguished Scholars Program, a summer research internship administered for Volkswagen Chattanooga by ORAU on behalf of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
The program offers students the opportunity to participate in research for ten full weeks during the summer at ORNL where scientific mentors will select projects for individual students based on their interests and degree fields. An optional second summer is possible where students will further their research at the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, TN.
Eligibility:
§ Undergraduate student: Junior or Senior during Summer 2015
§ Graduate student: Not yet completed course-work
§ May 2015 graduates entering graduate school
§ STEM degree field with interest in the automotive sector
§ Must be a U.S. Citizen
§ Must have a grade point average of 3.5 or above
The program is open to any eligible student studying a science, technology, engineering or math discipline with an interest in the automotive industry. Examples of research projects interns would be assigned include:
§ Low-cost Carbon Fiber
§ Battery Storage
§ Biofuels, Engines and Emissions
§ Additive Manufacturing
§ Intelligent Transportation Systems
§ Sustainable Manufacturing
