Minimum Qualifications:

Professional degree from an ALA accredited library school; an understanding of general library procedures; knowledge or experience of marketing to departments; organizational ability. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an administrative or supervisory level position in a library preferred.  Medical reference experience preferred, including database searching. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on a team-oriented, collaborative environment, problem solving ability, excellent microcomputer skills, and ability to work effectively with colleagues, students, faculty and staff.  

 

Job Summary:

This is a tenure-track position with faculty rank.  The person in this position serves as the Head of the Library Liaison Program. Responsibilities include coordinating the activities of the librarian liaisons to faculty and staff in departments in all three schools of the institution. The person in this position establishes policies and procedures for the section, sets priorities and workflow for the section, meets regularly with liaisons regarding best practices, and coordinates special events. The person in this position identifies educational and information needs within departments and develops strategies to meet them. This person also markets library services and resources to departments, and identifies opportunities for additional liaison relationships with departments that historically have not had library liaisons. The head of the Liaison Program works closely with the Head of User Education and Outreach and with the reference librarian. The Liaison Program Head instructs and leads other librarians in working with clinical departments which have ACGME residency programs to ensure that the library is in communication with each department so that it has the appropriate resources required for residents’ education. The person in this position provides education in information literacy and critical appraisal of literature to prepare students and residents for evidence-based practice. The Head of the Program ensures that new faculty members in the institution receive materials within a short time of their arrival, letting them know what the library can provide for them and how it can help them with their information needs for research and clinical practice. The Head of the Program provides reports on liaison activities and fulfills other duties such as teaching, committee service, pursuit of grants, and research.
