Acquisitions Librarian

Millsaps College Library

Jackson, Mississippi

 

Millsaps College Library seeks an Acquisitions Librarian responsible for selecting and ordering library materials and serials management, with additional duties in reference and some library instruction.

 

This professional position reports to the College Librarian and works closely with other Library staff.  The Acquisitions Librarian also consultswith faculty and library staff to select and order library materials; accepts and evaluates gift books; manages print journals; works with vendors and processes invoices for payment; monitors the acquisitions budget; and prepares reports as needed.  The Acquisitions Librarian conducts some library instruction sessions for freshmen and upper level classes in cooperation with other librarians.  All librarians serve at the reference desk one night per week and rotate weekends and other times as needed.

 

The library has 5 professionals and 2 staff members serving a college population of approximately 1,000 students, faculty and staff.  The collection contains over 200,000 print volumes, a wide variety of online resources, the College Archives and the Mississippi United Methodist Archives, and a number of special collections.  The Library is a member of Lyrasis and uses a SirsiDynix system.

 

Librarians at Millsaps College have twelve-month appointments, faculty rank, and titles, but are not tenured.  Full time benefits eligible position including TIAA-CREF and partially paid health insurance.  Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

Qualifications:  Required:  ALA-accredited master’s degree; aptitude for detail-oriented work; strong organizational and communication skills; excellent public service attitude; ability to work in a small, close-knit environment with library staff, faculty, and students.  Preferred:  academic library experience in acquisitions or serials management, library instruction, and SirsiDynix acquisitions and serials modules.
