Want to be a Speaker at Fall 2014 Commencement?

The Office of the Provost is accepting entries from students who would like to speak at the fall 2014 commencement ceremony on December 13. To be considered, you must be receiving your bachelor’s degree at this ceremony. You may submit your commencement speech for consideration by 5:00 p.m. November 7. Learn more about the competition here.

Day of the Dead Celebration at Hodges Library

Celebrate the Day of the Dead from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. this Friday with films, music videos, and documentaries in the Hodges Library Auditorium. You can also stop by the library’s first floor galleria to vote for your favorite traditional Day of the Dead altar created by second-year Spanish program students.

Career Services Wants to Hear from You

If you are one of 5,000 students randomly selected to complete the Career Services needs assessment, we want your feedback. Many of you received an email yesterday with a link to the survey. Your feedback will help improve offerings to better meet your needs. One hundred students who take the survey will win Career Services t-shirts and one student will win an iPad Mini 2. You’ll be automatically entered for prizes once you complete the survey.

UT Libraries to Honor Bass

Professor Emeritus William M. Bass has excavated ancient skeletons, recovered the remains of murder victims, and headed UT’s anthropology department for more than twenty years. UT Libraries will honor him and celebrate the Dr. William M. Bass III Collection during a reception and lecture at 5:30 p.m. this Thursday in Hodges Library.

Sophomore Selected for National Conference

Colleen Ryan has been selected to attend an annual national global affairs conference hosted by the World Affairs Councils of America. She is an honors student in the Haslam Scholars Program majoring in global studies and is co-founder of the Global Studies Club. Congrats, Colleen!

Fall Fest Volunteers Needed

The UT National Association for the Advancement of Colored People needs volunteers for their annual Fall Fest at Sarah Moore Greene Elementary School from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. this Saturday. E-mail [log in to unmask] to sign up to volunteer. The group is also accepting donations of unopened bags of candy for the event. You can drop off candy at bins located in the Women’s Center in the UC, Hess Hall, the I-House, and the Black Cultural Center.

Let’s Make Voting Popular

The Baker Center Voter Registration and Engagement Team is hosting a Let’s Make Voting Popular discussion at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday in the Baker Center Toyota Auditorium. The event will give you the chance to have a fun and casual conversation about voting and strategies for motivating other students to action.
