Freight Transportation Stakeholders & Friends:

A pair of publications focused on freight transportation and increasing highway capacity and prepared as part of the Transportation Research Board’s second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP 2) were recently released.  The two publications are:

·         Integrating Freight Considerations into the Highway Capacity Planning Process: Practitioner’s Guide – this report focuses how state Departments of Transportation and Metropolitan Planning Organizations can work to improve the quality of their interactions with the private sector freight stakeholders such as freight carriers, manufacturers, and retailers.

·         Integrating Freight Considerations into Collaborative Decision Making for Additions to Highway Capacity – this report focuses on how transportation agencies at all levels of government can better coordinate with freight carriers, manufacturers, and retailers when planning and working to implement future highway network capacity improvements.

More information about both reports, including direct links to the reports, is shown below.

Please share this information as appropriate with transportation planners and engineers at all levels of government (federal, state, regional, county, local) who are involved in freight transportation planning and/or are directly involved in roadway network capacity and maintenance improvements, and also with freight carriers, manufacturers, and retailers that rely on the U.S. transportation system to pick-up and deliver their goods and their customers’ goods.  Thank you.
