It’s Our Birthday,
Come Celebrate!
Celebrate 220 years of UT’s history during the
UT’s Founder’s Day event hosted by the Office of New Student and Family
Programs and the Student Government Association. Stop by from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on
Pedestrian Walkway for birthday cake, cupcakes, and fun activities to celebrate with
students, faculty, and staff from across campus.

The university plans to test the UT Alert text and e-mail
messaging system at 1:10 p.m. on Friday, September 12. If you have not signed up for UT
Alert, please enroll now so you can receive
important emergency messages. You will need your NetID and password and your mobile
number.

Help the Young Americans for Freedom create a
memorial consisting of 2,977 flags to commemorate the lives that were lost on September
11, 2001. The group will gather the night before at 11:00 p.m. beside the HSS
Amphitheater to construct the memorial. The flags will stay in place all day on September
11.

UT is hosting one of the Medal of Honor events on
Friday as part of the national convention. Everyone is invited to a Town Hall Forum on
campus featuring Medal of Honor recipients Clinton Romesha and Kyle White. The event will
begin at 10:00 a.m. in Cox Auditorium of the Alumni Memorial Building. A big crowd is
expected so plan to arrive early.

Beginning college is a major change. It’s an
exciting but challenging time. Many freshmen enjoy the freedom of college. Some may have
a harder time adjusting to college life. Homesickness is a common challenge. UT’s Student
Counseling Center has some tips to help you out if you are feeling homesick.

The first Culture Night of the semester kicks off at 6:00
p.m. Wednesday in the International House Great Room. The showcase will feature two
dance performances and a full meal featuring Russian cuisine. Tickets are $5 and can be
purchased at the I-House front desk.

searching for outstanding juniors to become the next Baker Scholars. If you are interested
in public policy and public service, the Baker Scholars program is a unique opportunity for
